Bounce Flash

A couple months ago I took some pictures with the flash pointed at the ceiling, called bounce flash. You don't get the hard shadows you normally do, instead you get a nice soft shadow directly beneath things. I was quite impressed with the results. Hardly prize winning, but 10x better than you get with the flash directly on the subject:

The flowers, of course, were done by the amazing Lani Hasselfield of Hasselfield Floral. Posted by Boone at December 3, 2005 01:28 AM

Hey Dave,

What camera did you use ... did you have a separate flash, or a hotshoed flash? In other words, how did you get the flash to point one way, and the camera the other?

Also, do you need to do some timing stuff then, because presumably the flash takes a bit longer to get there?

Pentax *ist DS w/ an old AF400FTZ flash. Hotshoed flash with a swivel head. Just point it whichever way you want and shoot.

No special timing stuff required, light moves quick enough it's not a problem :)
